Welcome to the blog of the pod of the dream of the friendship

Hi all, Jer here, and welcome to yet another place to get some thoughts from Morgan (my esteemed co-host) and I!

I don’t want to spend a ton of time promising this and that, more just to highlight that this podcast has been something I have wanted to do for a long time. I am a big consumer of podcasts (shout out to my favs Conan O’Brien Needs a Friend and Radiolab) and have dreamed of having something worth making my own. Now, having worked with Mo and even better, become good friends with him, I feel like this is genuinely a podcast that should exist!

What we hope to talk about are the things that many people will go through in their lives, and do so openly, honestly and ideally with some tools to help get through all of this craziness that is life.

All of this can feel a little “new age” or a little fuzzy, but I want to flag that you are talking to a convert. I am the classic 60 hours a week type A work all the time kind of person. It served me well, but I was on track to burn out, crack and go work on a farm instead of tech. I was lucky enough to instead get performance coaching, which helped me continue to grind.

All this coaching — thinking about mindfulness, and what my feelings were really trying to tell me — helped me continue to operate at a high level in a chaotic, hard-working startup. Also, a lot of this is about understanding what you need to keep at the high level, what is needed to feed the machine. It was shocking in some ways how obvious it was, but more shocking that it really helped me in my job AND my life. I was truly grateful, and finally convinced Morgan to try to do this out in the open with me to help more people.

You don’t have to be type A for this to land. If you feel frazzled, or you’re hunting for balance, I hope it helps to hear that other people are too. And if you’ve genuinely got it all sorted — great, stick around for two friends enjoying each other’s company.

All that to say, I am so glad to have you along for the ride, and I hope that at some point you end up getting something out of our podcast. Whether it is connection, tools, a laugh or just feeling a little more seen, I am happy to know that some good came out of what we do.

That’s all I got for now, as always, Before You Freak Out.
